Kerynne Tejada Coms 101 Mehl 10 May 2011 Topic Proposals Assignment 5 Proposal #1 : California SB 1317 (2011) For many fiscal years, budget for public education has been under great consideration. Yet, many take education for granted. This is where the new law SB 1317 comes in. California will now charge parents with a fine, misdemeanor, and/or one year in jail for their kid(s) who miss 10% of school. This is relevant to my classmates because we have all personally missed school. This puts into perspective what could have happened to our parents if we furthered this type of STANCE : status quo Source #1 : Goldberg, Dennis. “New California Truancy Bill Could punish Parents with Special Needs Children.” Special Education Advisor . 9 January 2011.
