1. Describe Absolutism in France. France is the best example of Absolutism. The sovereign power in the state rested in the ruler’s hand. The ruler claimed to rule divine right. And Sovereign had the power to make laws, mete out justice, control the state’s administrative system, tax, and determine foreign policy. The monarch of France was hereditary, so after Henry died, his son Louis XIII became king. Louis XIII was a weak king, but he had two strong ministers Richelieu and Mazarin. They did a lot of things to increase power of the Monarchy. After Mazarin’s death, Louis XIV, the son of Louis XIII took sole control of the government. Louis XIV is the most powerful ruler in French history. He spent untold sums of money on the construction of a new royal residence at Versailles. It was king’s home. The location of central government, and Louis removed high nobles from the royal council to Versailles in order to eliminate the threat by nobles. Louis appointed new nobles as his ministers and dominated his ministers gave him control of the central policy-
