Barbara Morgan Salmonella is a type of food poisoning. The food poisoning is caused by bacteria. Al though there are many types of Salmonella bacterium the most popular two forms are Salmonella serotype Typhimurium and Salmonella serotype Enteritidis in the US. In each year there are approximately 40,000 cases of food poisoning related to the Salmonella bacteria. Many of the milder cases go undetected and unreported which lead to the fact of the estimated or reported numbers being much lower than the true value of infected . Food poisoning is also more common in the summer than in the winter. And children, elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are more susceptible to having severe infections. The bacteria can be transmitted by contaminated animals or food. The bacteria can be transmitted by food by people eating contaminated food. The food can be contaminated a number of ways while the food is being handled during processing. The raw food may have had some bacteria on it and the handler transfers it to the cooked meat with failure to comply with safe cooking conditions.
