Culture, from my perspective, is a material and spiritual product of thousands-of-year human activities, and can be regarded as a symbol of a nation. It “encompasses us like an envelope encloses a letter”, and “exposes us to what is within the envelope and limits us from seeing what lies beyond it.” So when a person is in a different country, culture and environment, he can be subjected to a confusing and anxious condition, which is called culture shock. A person who is experiencing culture shock usually judges other individuals or societies using his own culture as a standard. So comes the word “ethnocentrism” Commonly, the more two cultures differ from each other, the more culture shock a person may suffer. There is a large indigenous tribe in the Amazon called Yanomamo, which has significant differences from the cultures of Western civilized people. Yanomamo Indians, according to Napoleon Chagnon in The Fierce People , “are one of the largest unacculturated tribes left in all of South America.” They live nakedly, admire ferocity in
