Unformatted text preview: Monique Medina Data Communications Lab 4: VLANS Virtual Local Area Networks 10/3/11 Summary/Objectives: This lab focused on how physical networks can be divided into separate logical networks by implementing virtual local area networks known as VLANS. The purpose is to show how VLANS can add security, decrease collisions, and lighten the load on some network links, while also being possible to implement without actually moving wires or other tedious changes. Implementation: The first step to be able to successfully run this lab is to open up the Lab 04 (VLAN) PDF file. After that, following the lab directions helps one create and configure the network and duplicate it into two other scenarios, for a total of three scenarios: No VLAN, VLAN, and VLAN_Comm. It is then possible to answer the questions at the end of the lab after making sure that the first three scenarios were correctly implemented. Results/Analysis/Answers: Question 1: No VLAN - The first scenario (No VLAN) has complete route demands because all LANs can access all three servers because there is no VLAN, thus no limitation to access. The hacker also has unlimited access! VLAN - The VLAN scenario (scenario 2) has more limited route demands because of the VLAN implementation, which only allow students to access the ELearning Server, Staff to access the HR Server, and Professors to access the Research Server. However, the VLANs are not configured to allow access by multiple groups to different servers. Also, the hacker cannot access anything because he/she is not a member of any VLAN. VLAN_Comm -...
