BMDS 3370 – Business Statistics University of the Incarnate Word H-E-B School of Business and Administration BMDS 3370 – Business Statistics Syllabus I - Catalogue Description: Introduction to statistical analysis in a business context. Topics covered in the course include: Descriptive Statistics, Discrete Probability Distributions, Continuous Probability Distributions, Sampling Methods, Confidence Intervals, and Hypothesis Testing. Prerequisite: MATH 1304 (College Algebra) or equivalent. II - Context: a. This course is the first in a sequence of two (3-hour) BMDS courses required in the BBA undergraduate core curriculum. b. Transfer students may request a waiver for this course if they have already taken a college-level course in statistics. c. This course may not be repeated for credit. III - Description of Course: A. Cognitive Elements / Thematic Expectations / Skills Developments 1. Introduction to statistical methodology, such as descriptive statistics, probability distributions, confidence intervals, and hypothesis testing. 2. Application of statistical methods in a variety of business environments. B. Requirements essential for the course: 1. Strong mathematical skills 2. Ability to communicate quantitative information 3.
