Tian Chen Research paper ENGL102 11/17/11 How Chinese philosophy affected Japanese literature and American literature As one always said how you think determined what you can write about. According to history, philosophy always has close relation with literacy. In this research paper, the focus is located on how the oriental literature has a big influence on American literacy creation at around 1980. Zen Buddhism is very important culture legacy in China and even in ancient Asia. As I know of, Zen is origin from ancient Indian. According to the essay "Zen Buddhism", in Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History, it said “Zen teaches that enlightenment is achieved through the profound realization that one is already an enlightened being.” According to the essay Zen was traced its origins to India and formalize in China. Zen was transmitted from China to Japan. And Zen took root in Japan in thirteenth century. It is not only the religion practice Buddhism was transmitted to japan, as well as Chinese literature, calligraphy, philosophy, and ink painting. Many Japanese disciples have traveled to China for further study.
