Chapter 4 Marketing information system (MIS)- computerized systems that collect and organize marketing data on a timely basis to provide information for decision making Management information system- also called MIS, usually contains additional data, such as employee records and various internal documents Marketing research - the formal assembly and analysis of data about specific issues surrounding a marketing strategy Marketing decision support system (MDSS)- allows decision makers to access raw data from the MIS and manipulate it into useful form. Transaction-based information system (TBIS)- a specialized type of MIS that serves as an electronic link between a firm and its customers, distributors, and suppliers Information - data that have been analyzed and put in useful form Data - any set of facts or statistics obtained from outside or inside the company Database - a collection of material that can be retrieved by a computer External data - comes from outside the company Internal data - includes a company’s own sales and accounting records and sales force call
