Olivia Nixon Dr. Crockett Engineering 110 21 October 2009 onixon_impact_dr crockett This week’s guest speaker was in fact not a guest speaker at all, but I enjoy his speech nonetheless. Dr. Crockett had a very good life/career “story” to tell us. What I found fascinating about Dr. Crockett was his ability and willingness to change and adapt. He was also willing to do whatever it took so he could be where he wanted to be. Many times he would just pick up and start his life over, so to speak, just so he could be where he wanted, doing what he wanted. His wife is so awesome for supporting him throughout the marriage no matter what!! However, what I found most interesting about Dr. Crockett is his thirst for learning. It seems like everything he has done throughout his career has been about gaining knowledge and trying new things, rather

He said he only did something or worked somewhere for as long as he was interested and he always pursued his dreamwhatever that was at the timeno matter what. To me this is an admirable quality especially since I have no idea what I want to do in the next 4 years nevertheless what I want to do with my life. I am in General Engineering which pretty much screams, I dont know what Im doing! However, after Dr. Crocketts speech I am beginning to accept this he didnt know exactly what he wanted to do in college either and wasnt very interested in engineering. Reminds me a lot of me Who knows? Maybe someday I will end up as a Professor and head of a department at a major university too...
