Olivia Nixon Erma Stauffer COMS 102 28 Oct. 2010 Story Speech Evaluation When I first saw myself on the tape I was so freaked out! This is definitely one of the weirdest/most uncomfortable things I have ever had to do for a class, and I don’t really like it at all. I don’t like the evaluating aspect of this exercise as well as having to watch myself. First of all, I realized I sound like a man when I speak and sometimes I speak with a monotone voice (this may have been due to the fact that I was sick). Also I don’t think I sound very intelligent when I speak; this may have been due to the casualness of the story speech or this may just how I speak. In terms of my voice, I want to try to speak more clearly, enunciate my words, and add more vocal variety depending on the emotion my speech is taking. Another thing I noticed when listening to myself was my use of fillers. I said “uh/um” a number of times which was not too bad; however, my use of “like” was extremely noticeable.
