MEMORANDUM Date: March 15, 2011 To: Sherrie Amido From: Olivia Nixon Re: Class Assessment The purpose of this memo is to evaluate Sherrie Amido’s English 149 class and my overall performance. The memo contains the lessons learned over the course of the quarter, advice to incoming students, and a self assessment. L ESSONS L EARNED First, I learned to effectively edit my writing. The paramedic method is hard to grasp but is a tool needed to master technological writing. This method changed my writing and eliminated a lot of fluff; however, I still need to practice this skill for success in the workplace. Another lesson I learned is writing is absolutely necessary for engineers, no matter the discipline. You conveyed this point well in lecture and I also learned this during my interview with an engineer. LeAnn Smith, the engineer I interviewed, stressed the importance of writing to both technical and non- technical audiences. She advised me to practice my writing because it will impress my employers and peers, enable me to do my job fully, and save a lot of time. I also learned many other communication skills from this class. The iFixit project taught me the
