Refuge in Sangha, the community Life of Siddhartha as Metaphor for Your Spiritual Journey *Story of Buddha’s life is a metaphor of our spiritual journey - We want to get and we avoid turn to religion - Story of Buddha causes us to question - Buddha decides to not move until something made sense to him 1. The Path of Self-Indulgence - Palace Life: you all think that if you get what you want you will be happy 2. The Path of Religion 3. The Path of Giving Up - Last temptation, life has no meaning Four Noble Truths - Assumptions about the world that are unwarranted - Sukka: lasting peace, joy and happiness - People have assumed that sukkha is the goal - There isn’t any sukkha that is possible 1. Dukkha (What must I do to achieve sukkha?) - Feeling of disjointedness A. Doctrine of Impermanence - Cannot trust in anything B. Doctrine of Anatman - Bundle of properties - What keeps use trapped? Ignorance!
