Office hours: Wednesday 10:30 - 12:00 or by appointment. Ethics is a branch of philosophy. It mirrors humanities and sciences. Ethics is a branch of value theory. Value Theory is a part of philosophy that asks about values. VT includes political theory and aesthetics. Ethics deals with what is good, and if there ultimate goods. Aristotle is concerned with what is good as such. He talks about what the good life is and how it should be lived. Ethics also deals with morality and how one should behave. That is often expressed as what is right to do. Ethics can be applied, for instance to business and biology. Metaethics is what it means to talk about ethics. Meta- means after in Greek. Metaethics deals with the scope of ethical claims; it also deals with the possibility of humans being or not being ethical. Ethical claims Ethical claims are often argued for and against. 1.
