Geography- Lecture #10 (Dec 1/09) - Green Revolution gave a lot of people food but people were still mal nourished because they didn’t have enough diversity of food - Over consuming fatty foods - Food security o Personally acceptable food is too vague - World Hunger o We don’t concern ourselves with it o We don’t look at distribution of food and fairness of trades o Patterns of global hunger (mainly in Africa) just food supply not balance of diet o In developed countries, still problems with mal nutrition o Gap b/w rich and poor increased a lot because of job losses and distribution of people o Undernourishment used to be mainly on individuals, but now more family (parents, kids) o In terms of Canada: 3 million people suffer from malnutrition (1/10 of people) Huge geography related Aboriginals have huge problems with food security Location: they are living away from others, up in the north food is really expensive Geography and socioeconomic aspects of it - Over nutrition and obesity
