BIOL 1209 Lab Report Name: Kelvin Dandridge Lab Instructor: Joel Maier Lab Section: Section 2 Abstract : The green algae, chlamydomonas reinhardtii , is affected by many different factors, including different wave frequencies of light. Our experiment tested the impact wave frequencies of blue and red light have on a specific population of C. reinhardtii . We hypothesized that the photosynthetic ability of C. reinhardtii would be inhibited more by the red light than by the blue because red light has longer wavelengths than blue, making it harder for light to pass through. The control, which was placed under white light, was also hypothesized to have the most photosynthetic activity. The control light seemed to produce the most photosynthetic activity with an average of .56mL after Day 14 and the blue light produced the least with an average of .348ml after Day 14. The results of the experiment show us that red and blue light are definitely absorbents for photosynthesis and the affects it can have on a C. reinhardtii population.
