Psychology In Greek, “psyche” means soul and “logos” means study of. » Science of mind (mental processes and subjective experiences that make up a person’s sensations, perceptions, memories, thoughts, motives and emotions) and behaviour (all observable actions) » Use scientific method to answer questions » Observable behaviour can be directly observed while mind cannot but inferences can be made » 4 main goals: accurately and objectively describe processes of mind and behaviour, explain mechanisms of processes and causes, predict how these processes are affected in different conditions, and control and influence theses processes through application of psychology principles » relate overt behaviours (responses) to observable events in environment (stimulus: detectable input) –
