Homework #3 Y o u r N a m e : Due on Friday, October 21, before the lecture. Only two problems will be graded explicitly. The last two questions are optional. 1) Please write down the expression for the operator H for a single particle traveling in 3- dimensional space under the potential V(r) . 2) In class, we showed that the solution to the Schodinger equation of a single particle in 1-D, i.e. its wavefunction and an eigenfunction of the Hamiltonian, is also an eigenfunction of the operator of the x-component of the linear momentum of this particle. What are the possible values of the total energy, the x-component of linear momentum of the particle that might be measured experimentally? Hint: No derivations are required to answer this question. 3) The wavefunction of the H atom is proportional to e -r/a , i.e.  e -r/a , where A is a constant, and a is a constant called Bohr radius.
