Sigmund Freud Sigmund Freud was born on May 6, 1856 in Austrian Empire, now the Czech Republic. Despite their poverty, his family sacrificed everything to give him a proper education. In 1865, Freud entered the ‘Leopolstadter Kommunal-Realgymnasium’, a prominent high school. He was an outstanding pupil and graduated the Matura in 1873 with honors.
