A large majority of the houses in route one are severely damaged. In comparison, only the houses in the top part of route two are severely damaged. The houses in the bottom part are still in decent condition. Therefore, the conditions of the houses in route one are worse as a whole. In terms of patterns, there are no specific spatial patterns that appear in either of the maps, except for the fact that the top of route two is more damaged than the bottom. In terms of building types, the houses that appeared to be made largely of wood were more severely damaged, as opposed to their brick and concrete counterparts, which still had walls standing. For example, there are several trash trucks seen piling rubble to haul it away. There is also evidence of road construction, and buses that may have been used to evacuate residents and that are now bringing them back. A local story from the Joplin Globe dated May 22, 2011, just days after the tornado struck, explains that authorities feared the death toll would pass 100. It also talks on the role of local hospitals, and their limitation to the critically injured directly following the disaster.
