Student 1 Sample Student Heather Augenstein Eng101 September 20, 2014 The Smartest Man I Know My husband is the smartest man I know. When I met him, he had saved for a future house for years, was an investor in the stock market, and had been a serious gun and comic collector. I was working to get off of welfare after a terrible divorce, had three children, and had had multiple jobs by the time we met; I often felt I did not live up to the standards we both wanted for our marriage. We often joked that he had “reached down into the gutter and pulled me up.” Before we married I admired my husband. I do not think I idolized him, but the pedestal on which I placed him was quite high. I still admire him, but some things have changed along the way. When we married, he had invested quite a bit in the stock market. Many times, he tried to explain to me how the market works to no avail. Although I understood the basics of profit and dividend, I often confused the terms “Japanese candlesticks” with Chinese firecrackers (I still have no idea what those are). Many times I stared at him as he explained the difference between markets. What he didn’t realize was that intriguing stare I usually gave was typically a conversation in my head about how dreamy he was. I am not sure I wanted to know how it worked. He knew; that was all that mattered.
