Patrick Kennedy Travel Writing March 20, 2008 The Search for the Perfect Language This story essentially discusses the theory of language and its history. It uses a good combination of historical facts, along with philosophy and opinion. Eco toys with the idea that there is a langue which expresses everything perfectly. Eco uses biblical anecdotes as examples, which blend well with his other philosophical examples. As far as historical references, Eco uses many 16 th and 17 th century references, which seems to be his area of expertise, as is evident in his extensive comments on the renaissance.
