Old Castle Building Envelope is a subsidiary of Old Castle, a larger corporation, that manufactures many of the products found in the construction industry, from gravel to pre-cast concrete. For Old Castle Building Envelope, being part of a larger mother company implies to begin a Lean implementation to further the business into the future. Curtain Wall Architectural Glass Architectural Windows OUTLINE Using DMAIC and 5s tools to improve flow and profit for three key areas of production Goal to improve process time by 20% in cutting and polishing Goal to improve profit by 10% DMAIC 1. D: Define Improve productivity in cutting and polishing activities. 1. M: Measure Use internal scanning system to gather data to calculate time and waste Use flow chart to visually track piece in process 1. A: Analyze Average time in storage is 15 days Average time in polishing is 5 hours with 20% error rating Average time in cutting is 4 hours with a 6% error rating 1. I. Improve / C: Control Use 5s to complete the improve and control section of DMAIC Definition 5s 1. Sort : Remove all materials/goods that do not belong at the area.
