Set of rules for manipulating expressions containing matrices
whilst maintaining invariants.
Similar to algebra on scalars, has a multiplicative identity
element: the identity matrix. Consists of a square matrix with
1’s along the main diagonal and 0’s elsewhere.
A vector or matrix multiplied by the identity matrix is
unchanged.
