Purpose Administrative decisions o Merit/Rewards o Punishment Employee development o Areas to Improve Research o Used as a criterion o Base how well the pre hire test was at predicting future performance Performance Criteria Criteria- variability of interest (dependent variable) the standard one is assessed against (distinguishes good performance from bad) Actual vs. Theoretical Criterion o Actual- how you actually measure the theoretical criterion o Theoretical- your idea of what good performance is Overlap of actual and theoretical is “RELEVANCE” o Theoretical Criterion not measured is called “Deficiency” E.g. returns in retail o Actual Criterion not used in Theoretical Criterion is called “Contamination” or ERROR E.g. time of day you work leads to lesser sales Observed Score = Error + True Score Level of Specificity
