1.2 Procedure for Impact Assessment In the impact assessment, the inventory is translated into potential contributions to various impacts within the main groups environment, resources and working environment. This leads to a strong reduction in the size of the body of data, especially for emissions to the environment. There is a weighting of the individual interchanges according to the level of their potential impact. 2

The impact assessment progresses through three steps: (i) Calculation of potential contributions to various categories of impact. (•) Types of environmental impacts are assessed. (•) For each individual emission to the environment, a calculation is then made to determine the magnitude of the contributions to various impact categories . (•) These contributions are called the emission's environmental impact potentials .
