8. Pollution Prevention and Waste Reduction The best and first step in any pollution prevention and waste control strategy should be to minimise the production of pollutants in the first place. Reason is- a large proportion of pollutants results from the manufacturing and energy processes , an obvious approach to pollution and waste minimisation is to conserve energy and materials . Because of the interrelationship between energy and material consumption , conservation management also reduces pollution and waste. Modern technology has yielded more efficient and cleaner operation units that improve and reduce amount of energy and material use. 1
