WEEK FINAL 2 Week 9 Final The changes in Democracy it seems we are always debating with ourselves on how we actually feel about the kind of Democracy we have here in America. Many people believe that America is a democracy but in fact America is a republic. Many people fail to see this but it is clearly stated in the “Pledge of Allegiance” that we are taught when in school. . A republic is a political system in which the power lies within the citizens. The citizens vote in a head of state, who we call a President, to represent them (dictionary.com, 2010). In the beginning with our founding fathers of America, they knew that democracy would not work; they also knew that people by nature are driven by power. People want to be able to control a country and if that happened they would have all the power but making America a republic this diminishes that greatly from happening. People are constantly making changes to adapt to an ever changing America; however even with these changes we still have many problems. The Constitution when it was written was not entirely known to the people. Over many countries there have been constitutions written all the time. The educated people who write these up know what they are doing because they have experience that they have gone through by writing or reviewing other constitutions from other countries. These constitutions that these people were learning about constitutions were from countries like Japan, Italy, and Australia all have their own constitutions (constitution.org, n.d.). America’s constitution is different however from the other countries, for America can modify the American Constitution through the people. I would find it incredible if I was able to view the drawing up of the Constitution during the time of our fore fathers. It also makes me think if our fore fathers were alive today, how would they

WEEK FINAL 3 feel about some of the changes that were done to the American Constitution? It also makes me wonder if the Fore Fathers would be impressed that we still use the same techniques that was used when they drew up the Constitution. One subject that seems to strike a chord on the minds of many people is the subject of Civil Rights in the area of equality for women in a man’s world. America has come a long way when it comes to equality for women but this is not that way in many other countries. In other countries women are viewed as inferior. As women in America, we have become very appreciative for the changes that the women have fought for, unlike other countries where women are oppressed and are not allowed to speak unless spoken to. The women of America have the freedom to speak their minds, work and accomplish other tasks that other countries to not allow women to do. The women that are in the Middle Eastern countries tend to be denied
