Sabrina Baez ENG 346 10/27/2011 Weekly Paper #8 E.E. Cummings “i like my body when it is with your” E.E. Cumming’s sonnet “i like my body when it is with your”, much like his other poems, defies the standard style of most poetry. Cummings uses eccentric punctuation, random spacing, and questionable imagery to set his avant- garde poetry apart from the rest. The innovative poet used lower case letters in many of his poems “i like your body. i like what it does,” to show his rebelliousness. (Levin 198). I believe Cummings does this to reiterate the fact that everyone is equal and nobody holds a higher importance than anybody else. I appreciate the fact that his ˡ poetry is so different and does not follow a specific pattern. Cumming’s poetry follows the abstract way of life rather than the structured pattern of a sonnet. It is this reason his poetry is so easy to read and understand. The reader can see the story unfolding without trying to interpret the poem or finding the deeper meaning.
