Course Syllabus Purdue University - Physics 22200 1 PHYSICS 22200 SYLLABUS Course Coordinator: Dr. Andrzej ( Andrew ) Lewicki - Room PHYS 142, lewicki@purdue.edu Lab Manual: Physics 22000 Laboratory Manual , 2011/2012, Andrzej ( Andrew ) Lewicki, Sharon Comer, and Michael Zimmer, LAD Custom Publishing, 2011. ( Required ) Associated Textbook: College Physics – Reasoning and Relationships, Volume One , Nicholas Giordano, Brooks/Cole, Cengage Learning, 2009. ( Not required, but recommended ) General description: Physics 22200 CRN number for the fall 2011 semester is 46216. Physics 22200 is a one-credit physics laboratory course. Physics 22200 curriculum includes laboratory experiments demonstrating the following concepts: kinematics, dynamics, conservation of energy, conservation of momentum, rotational motion, waves, oscillations, fluids, and heat. Labs meet once per week for two hours. Physics 22200 starts with an introduction to the course and includes ten experiments plus two (or three) lab make- ups. Physics 22200 experiments are identical to experiments performed by Physics 22000 students at West Lafayette campus. There are no exams at the end of semester. The final, pass/fail grade will be assigned based total number of points for the lab reports combined with points for the prelaboratory questions. Physics 22200 students will use the same lab manual as Physics 22000 students: Physics 22000 Laboratory Manual, 2011/2012, Andrzej Lewicki, Sharon Comer, and Michael Zimmer, LAD Custom Publishing, 2011. That lab manual is available from local bookstores and is required for all Physics 22200 students. Do not buy any previous editions of the lab manual! Each experiment in the lab manual starts with a brief theory section, which contains a summary of physics concepts related to the experiment. However, students who need more in-depth information about the investigated concepts should refer to the associated textbook: College Physics – Reasoning and Relationships, Volume One , Nicholas Giordano, Brooks/Cole, Cengage Learning, 2009. Physics 22000 students at West Lafayette campus also use the same textbook. Physics 22200 labs meet in room PHYS 121 in the Physics Building. Since room PHYS 121 is connected to the ITaP computer network, you need to have the (Purdue) career
