Start with an idea General first From personal life, work experience, from  literature Should have some passion about it; be intrisically  motivated to pursue idea/topic Ideally part of interest area in RPTS

Next define problem with idea/topic;  showcase need for studying Base it on: Everyday life experiences, practical issues, past  research, or theory Needs to be an extensive( ? ? ) statement with: Practical (In face) relevance( ? ? ) What good is it to practitioners? How can they use findings? Backed up( ? ? ) with statistical data that is either: From previous research or From sociodemographic( ? ? ? ) data on local, state, or  federal level Good examples of problems surrounding topic: Research never been done before; exploratory Will help answer problem plaguing field Other researchers have called for research
