James Lee Professor Tomlin English 102 17 September 2010 Break up the Facts, Roll It Up, Give it to America to Smoke No one died from marijuana yesterday. No one died from marijuana today. And there is a 99.99% chance that no one will die from marijuana tomorrow. That .001% is me giving marijuana the benefit of the doubt. In case you did not know, the number of deaths is significantly higher with tobacco and alcohol. Marijuana not only is a safer substance than tobacco and alcohol, but it is one that can help us in this recession. And no, it will not get us out it. That is a crazy thought. But we need all the help we can get and marijuana can be a great benefit. Is marijuana that bad? I mean, after all, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Barack Obama are just a few people that smoked it. But it isn’t like they changed the face of America. Thomas Jefferson was the primary author of the Declaration of Independence that we still live by today. George Washington was the first president of the same United States that we live in today. And Barack Obama is the first black president in the history of the United States. So I ask once again, is marijuana that bad? If you’re not a fan of numbers, bear with me. Hopefully these numbers will intrigue you. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 443,000 people die annually in the states; their deaths being tobacco related. To put that into perspective, that is 1 out of every 5 deaths. This number sky rockets to 5 million worldwide. By 2030, it is estimated that 8 million
