1 Indiana University of Pennsylvania Department of Accounting ACCT 401/501: Advanced Accounting Fall 2010 Guidelines for writing your research paper: The purpose of this research paper is to provide you with an opportunity to conduct research on a contemporary financial accounting topic. This will also provide you with an opportunity to learn how to communicate effectively your research findings in a professional manner. I earnestly hope that this exercise will give you a skill that you will find very useful later in your life. The research skills that you acquire during this process hopefully will prepare you to find appropriate information when you need them to solve unstructured problems that you may encounter in your professional life. Follow the guidelines below when you work on your research paper. 1. Length of your paper should be 4/5 single-spaced pages excluding bibliography and any exhibits or tables that you may provide. Type or print your paper on plain white 8½ X 11 inch paper, with 1½ inch margin on top and 1 inch margin on all other sides. Do not use fancy covers or expensive papers.
