Module 5      2 Abstract Response to the first question lists some important points in using the ability to control  agendas as a decision making tool. Response to the second question list the four  components of the conflict process as Parties involved, Field of conflict, Dynamics of the  conflict situation, The management, control, or resolution of conflict. Response to third  question explains the Bounded rationality and its effectiveness to decision making.  Response   to   the   fourth   question   explains   the   Garbage   can   decision   model   that  describes organizations run by organized chaos. Response to fifth question discusses  Omission and distortion as two major forms of communication transformation where  Omission involves the “deletion of aspects of messages and Distortion refers to altered  meanings of messages as they pass through the organization .

Module 5      3 Module 5 Deliverables Assignments:  Questions Question 1:  Explain how the ability to control agendas can be used as a decision  making tool. Response: We hear it in the newspapers all the time: a political party rose to new  heights by "controlling the agenda." This idea of controlling the agenda is a powerful tool  in the political system, the judicial system and  business . If you want to be the driver  behind the decision making at your workplace, the local  school  board meeting or any  negotiation, make sure you have a say in setting the agenda. Some important points in using the ability to control agendas as a decision making tool:  1. List out the items that you want on the agenda. 2. Rank the items in order of importance. The order of items on the agenda can  influence how much discussion time they receive and how they are received by  decision makers. 3. Place your highest priority items first, so they have the full attention of the  decision makers. You may start off the meeting with a topic that everyone can

Module 5      4 easily   agree   on,   as   an   icebreaker,   before   discussing   the   first   item   of   real  importance. 4. Place controversial items, or items that you don't want to spend too much time  debating, near the end of the meeting when people are tired and ready to go  home. 5. Keep the focus on or away from an item during the meeting by encouraging more  discussion   or   moving   things   along.   This   works   best   if   you   are   running   the  meeting. Even if you are not in charge, you may still affect the flow of the meeting  by asking that certain items be added to the agenda. An effective technique is
