List five verbal clues that may indicate the witness/perpetrator is lying. Answer Selected Answer: Change in speech patterns where speech is sped up or slowed down, or gets louder. Repetition of the questions. Comments regarding the physical environment such as the room is too hot, or too small. Selective memory. The suspect may claim to be unable to remember important facts. Dishonest people often make excuses about things that look bad for them such as "I'm always nervous." Oaths such as "I swear to god" or "To tell the truth" are often used by deceptive people. Honest people are more likely to deny an allegation. 12. A liar will often avoid terms such as steal and lie . Instead, the dishonest person will use soft words such as borrow . 13. Refusal to implicate other suspects. This is because the culpable person does not want to narrow the circle of suspicion. 14. The dishonest person often has tolerant attitudes towards the crime. You might ask What should happen to the person who did this . The honest person more than likely will say he/she should go to jail . The dishonest person often says How should I know? 15. Dishonest persons generally are reluctant to terminate interview because they want to convince you they are not responsible for the crime. 16.
