SNS and PNS functions Complementary roles played by the SNS & PNS in control of various functions, including Central control of ANS function o Hypothalamus: Control of body temperature; fluid balance; energy homeostasis; sexual o Medulla: Respiratory centres; Cardiac centres; Vasomotor centres Innervation of the Heart Sympathetic: o SPN arises T1-T5 (main T4-5) o o Parasympathetic: o Arise in DMV o Travel via vagus & synapse with mural ganglia on post. atrial wall & atrioventricular groove o Terminate in same regions as sympathetic; reduced innervation of ventricles & coronary arteries Control of Blood Pressure: o Lesions above T4-T5: Decrease in BP due to loss of descending pathways
