Unformatted text preview: need an emergency operation, called an iridotomy. This procedure uses a laser to open a new channel in the iris. The new channel relieves pressure and prevents another attack. Prognosis Without treatment Open Angle Glaucoma may progress to complete blindness. If anti-glaucoma eye drops are used, and the eye has not suffered extensive damage the prognosis is very good. When the condition is detected early, medical management is most successful. It is imperative that patients receiving steroid therapy, both topically and systemically, undergo regular tonometry and opthalmoscopy particularly if there is a family history of glaucoma. Prevention Regular eye tests, especially in those with a family history of Glaucoma are essential to ensure early detection and treatment of the condition. «...back...
