Muscles that move the pectoral girdle (primarily scapula) - pectoralis minor o origin: 2 nd or 3 rd through 4 th or 5 th ribs o insertion: coracoid process of scapula o action: abducts & inferiorly rotates scapula; elevates 3 rd through 5 th ribs during forced inhalation (when scapula stabilized) - serratus anterior o origin: superior 8 or 9 ribs o o action: abducts & superiorly rotates scapula; elevates ribs (when scapula stabilized) - trapezius o th o o action: elevates scapula & helps extend head; rotates scapula upward; stabilizes scapula Muscles that move the humerus - pectoralis major o nd to 6 th ribs (sometimes 1 st to 7 th ribs) o
