Ovarian cancer Prognosis Prognosis is often associated with the stage: Stage I - tumour limited to 1 or both ovaries Stage IA - tumour limited to 1 ovary; no ascites present; no surface involvement; no tumour rupture or spillage; negative peritoneal washings Stage IB - tumour limited to both ovaries; no ascites present; no surface involvement; no tumour rupture or spillage; negative peritoneal washings Stage IC - tumour limited to 1 or both ovaries, with associated ascites, surface involvement, tumour rupture or spillage, or positive peritoneal washings Stage II - tumour involvement limited to the pelvis Stage IIA - involvement of the uterus or fallopian tubes Stage IIB - involvement of other pelvic organs or structures (e.g., bladder, rectum, pelvic side wall) Stage IIC - involvement of other pelvic organs or structures (e.g., bladder, rectum, pelvic side wall); plus ascites, surface involvement, tumour rupture or spillage, or positive peritoneal washings Stage III - tumour involvement of the upper abdomen or retroperitoneal lymph nodes
