Sports Medicine - Trauma Pitch Side A critical part of sports medicine is that rare occation that you as the doctor needs to be quick and thorough to assess the player on the pitch. This is a general overview that will help you to treat the player until further help arrives. Introduction Pre-hospital care is an essential part of an athlete’s care after injury. The responder needs to be quick and calm to assess the patient and their environment. A systemic approach for the assessment and treatment of patient is needed for the responder to deal with any situation that may arise either during a match or a training session. The initial assessment should start with a SAFE approach. This involves - Summoning for help; Aware of the casualty; Free from personal danger; Evaluate the scene, situation, and help. Now that you are safe, primary focus should then be on the patient. This would involve a primary survey using the ABCDE approach. Primary survey
