Robert Miles “On signification” agrees with Cox in that, resources (economy) are the root of race and racism “Races” have no basis in human biology o Analytical focus should be on “racism” o Process of “racialization” o “Race” is a feature of capitalism, and is necessary for that reason Racism is the unequal distribution of resources based on perceived differences. Racialization/Signification (placing people in racial groups) o The meaning we put, to physical differences o The dichotomy between “race” and class is a false construction Racism originates in and is reproduced through class struggle
