Stress on Campus 2 In order to determine what social and educational components of a Texas A&M students’ life affect stress, we must complete a variety of tests. Through the implementation of Independent t- tests and ANOVAs we are able to conclude the underlying factors and the significance of the role each plays. Independent t-tests are used when comparing the means of two groups. So when comparing gender and degree plan to stress, this will be our measuring tool. However, ANOVAs are used when investigating the means of one variable between more than two groups, in our case, comparing stress across four different class levels. Our research hypothesis is that gender, degree plan, and class level significantly differ in the amount of stress felt by students here on campus. While our null hypothesis is just the opposite, stating that there is no difference in stress regardless of differences in gender, degree plan, and class level, and holding the idea that any difference is simply due to chance. I expect to see no difference in stress based on degree plan, or gender, but expect to see a difference in class level. The reason I do not expect to see significant differences in gender is because of the similar pressures both men and women are forced to deal with in college. With little variation in schoolwork, amount of sleep, and free time, there should not be many reasons for differences in stress. Similarly, with the high standards of the Texas
