Stress on Campus 2 In an attempt to discover what relates to high stress in college students at Texas A&M University we ran a correlation test between GPA, age, hours of sleep, and level of stress, which is the best method because we are comparing continuous variables against one another. The null hypotheses are that there is: no interaction between stress level and age, no interaction between stress and GPA, no interaction between GPA and hours of sleep, and no interaction between GPA and age. We find that highly unlikely as shown by our research hypotheses, which state, there is a significant positive relationship between: stress level and age, stress and GPA, GPA and hours of sleep, and GPA and age little of which is due to chance. Because we believe sleep relates positively to stress, and stress relates positively to GPA, and age relates positively to all of the aforementioned (creating a triangle of positively related variables), we expect to see significant positive relationships amongst our continuous variables being tested. Our reason for believing our variables would be positively correlated lies in the understanding that as we sleep more we are more apt to perform in the classroom, as we get older we have better study habits, and as we get older our stress goes up making stress and GPA positively related through the variable of age. We decided a linear regression would be best because we were testing a prediction of two
