3 Isentropic process - - Definition of entropy balance Δ? = °? ? ± + ² Entropy transfer due to heat transfer Across the boundary Entropy term due to irreversibility - Therefore for Δ?=0, - Of course there wouldn’t be perfectly isentropic process but we can make nearly isentropic process ( have good efficiency due to less irreversibilities etc)

4 -Example: gas compressed in a fully insulated cylinder without heat exchange with the surroundings. -Example: gas is expanded through a nozzle so quickly that no heat exchange with the surroundings has time to take place. The relation for such a process for ideal gas: When the entropy is a gas that has been compressed or expanded is constant, no heat exchange with the surroundings takes place.
