THE VODOU RELIGION AND EXOTICISM Vodou is a religion that involves a unification between the worshipper and the worshipped or god. Religion is common to having exotic practices and international appeal as compared to other religions. In this religion, human beings are expected to take social responsibility and discover inner peace through worship. Members of Vodou culture see possession as a positive thing, unlike other religions like Christianity, which views possession as haunted by evil spirits ("Haitian Vodou Possession and Zombification: Desire and Return of the Repressed", 2005). The Vodou religion has become a favorite subject of exoticism due to its incorporation of various cultures and practices. It also contains diverse beliefs coming from people of different origins. Vodou religion has its roots in Haiti, developed through interactions of slaves from West Africa and Catholics in the country from the 16 th to 19h centuries (Kamerling-Brown, 2016). The
