There are three major schools of philosophical thought. The book lists four. - Structural Functionalism - Conflict/Power - Action perspective - Feminist Structural functionalism Society is held together by consensus on values, beliefs, norms Society’s parts automatically regulate one another “The bottle is half full” Basically a conservative interpretation of the goings-on in society Macro, large scale issues, interpretation of why society is the way it is. Conflict or Power Perspective Society is held together by coercion/manipulation Government intervention is needed to protect the interest of the average citizen “The bottle is half empty” Basically a liberal interpretation of the goings-on in society
