SP35:
A thermal power plant operating on the reheat Rankine cycle produces a net power output
of 80 MW.
Steam enters the highpressure turbine at 10 MPa and 500
C (state 1) and the
lowpressure turbine at 1 MPa and 500
C (state 3).
The isentropic efficiency of high
pressure and lowpressure turbine is 80%.
Steam leaves the condenser as saturated liquid
at 10 kPa (state 5) and is pumped back to boiler pressure of 10 MPa (state 6).
The
isentropic efficiency of the pump is 95%.
(a) Determine the temperature (
C) of steam at the exit of highpressure turbine (state 2)
and lowpressure turbine (state 4).
(b) Calculate the mass flow rate (kg/s) of steam.
(c) Determine the thermal efficiency (%) of the cycle.
(d) What is the rate of entropy generation (kW/K) for the highpressure turbine?
What is
the rate of entropy generation (kW/K) for the lowpressure turbine?
(e) Show the cycle on Ts diagram.
