Art Photo I   PGY1401C Page 1 Lighting Purpose: Familiarize yourself with these basic lighting  techniques and incorporate them into your work for more exciting  images. Direct          Light that falls directly on your subject, such as  sunlight from behind your camera.  This kind of lighting has two  prominent signatures: great detail and well-defined, focused  shadows.  Usually this light can be metered normally. Side         Light coming from a low or harsh angle to your  subject, such as early morning or late afternoon sunlight. Due to the  light's angle your subject will show textures that are not apparent with  direct light.  For portraits this will often present a fully lit half-face on  the side of the light source and the other half in deep shadow.  This is  a theatrical lighting style that is very dramatic for the right subject.
