Light is the visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, ranging from deep red to deep violet. Beyond this visible spectrum are wavelengths not seen by the human eye but are recordable on specialized films, such as infrared, ultra-violet, and x-ray. At the far ends of the electro- magnetic spectrum are radio waves with frequencies measured in miles and high-energy waves like gamma measured in millionths of a millimeter (nanometers). Visible light is a very small portion of the total spectrum. Animals other than humans see slightly different portions of this spectrum.
