Make sure the techniques you choose make sense for your  subject matter and are  not simply examples of the technique  without appropriate meaning. They’re not gimmicks, but tools to  use in order to get your message across. Depth of Field Shallow Creates a narrow band of focus so that the background  and/or foreground does not conflict with the primary subject, allowing  it to remain dominant. Can be used to create interesting shapes of  light and shadow as a background.  Sometimes referred to as  "positive isolation" or "selective focus".  Achieved by some or all of
