Melissa McCarty ETH/125: Capstone Checkpoint University of Phoenix During this class, I have had the opportunity to research different ethnic groups including those that make up my family tree. Most of the information that was valuable to me understanding different races and groups came from the Census Bureau as well as the Cherokee Indian websites. It was great to learn about different cultures and economic conditions that are affecting people on a day to day basis. Also to learn about the struggles and accomplishments of different racial groups was a great eye opening experience. Understanding the hardship and discrimination that some of ethnic groups have experienced gave me a better understanding and allowed me to learn about groups that I didn’t even know were being discriminated against until now. It makes you think about the way that you treat people and gives new meaning to the “golden rule” that my parents taught me growing up which was to treat others the way that we would want to be
